I. Introduction: The project aims to change the mind set of people living along the Teesta River regarding disaster understanding, impact, and collective planning. Despite a similar disaster in 1968, the community has forgotten the risks and tends to ignore vital knowledge. The current understanding of flash flood, landslides and earthquakes is superficial, and disaster management is still reactive. This intervention seeks to enhance knowledge, provide hands-on training, and foster collective planning with

government to prepare for natural disaster.


Project Goal: Reduce in the loss of lives and livelihood of the communities of Teesta River Basin of Sikkim and the Hill district of Kalimpong, West Bengal


Objective 1: Communities practice and promote Disaster Risk Reduction mitigation measures


Objective 2: Proactive response from the Government and other stakeholders for setting up of readiness disaster response mechanisms.


Proposed areas of intervention:

1. Rangpo – Sikkim & Kalimpong, West Bengal

2. Teesta – Kalimpong, West Bengal

3. 27th mile, Giel Khola, Melli - Kalimpong, West Bengal
